The finest textured turfgrass, with almost needlelike blades. Best known for its shade tolerance, it is often used in shady areas where most other turfgrasses would be unable to thrive. A cool season sod, Fine Fescue takes less heat than other fescue varieties and as a result is not recommended for hot or dry regions. Also known as "no mow", Fine Fescue can be allowed to grow tall and is often seen along hillsides, providing a beautiful and lush meadow grass appearance.
Fine Fescue maintains a shiny dark green color throughout the year when properly cared for. Because it does not like the heat, during extended hot or dry periods, Fine Fescue may lose its color rapidly.
Fine Fescue has excellent shade tolerance, performing better in shady conditions than most other turfgrasses.
Fine Fescue is resistant to most common bladegrass diseases. In hot climates however, it is susceptible to summer diseases.
